Statement of Faith

What We Believe

These are our core convictions — the beliefs we hold as essential to who we are as Church at the Grove. We don't expect everyone to agree on every detail of the Christian faith, but these are the foundations we build on. Questions are always welcome — think of this as a starting point for conversation, not a test.

01

The Bible

We believe the Bible — Old and New Testaments — is the inspired Word of God. God worked through human writers to give us His truth, and what they wrote is completely true and trustworthy. The Bible is our final authority for what we believe and how we live.

If Scripture says it, we take it seriously.

02

God

We believe in one God who exists as three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are not three gods — they are one God, fully united, each fully divine. This is what Christians call the Trinity.

  • God the Father created and sustains everything. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving, and perfectly wise.
  • God the Son is Jesus Christ. He is eternal — he didn't start existing when he was born. He is fully God.
  • God the Holy Spirit is fully God — not a force or an idea, but a person, active and present in the world and in believers today.

God is one, but he is not alone — he has always existed in relationship.

03

Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human — both at the same time. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a perfect, sinless life. He died on the cross as a substitute for our sin — taking the punishment we deserved. He physically rose from the dead three days later, ascended to heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He is coming back.

The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus are real historical events — not metaphors — and everything about our faith depends on them.

04

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity — fully God, fully personal. He inspired the writers of Scripture, convicts people of sin, and draws them to Jesus. The moment someone puts their faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside them. He grows us, gifts us for ministry, empowers us, and seals us for eternity.

The Holy Spirit is not a past-tense God. He is present and active in every believer and in our church today.

05

Humanity & Sin

We believe every person is made in the image of God — which gives every human being inherent dignity and worth, regardless of background, race, or any other factor. We also believe every person is a sinner. Sin isn't just bad behavior — it's a broken condition we were all born into, going back to Adam and Eve's choice to reject God. Because of sin, we are separated from God and unable to save ourselves.

People matter infinitely, and people are also broken. Both are true.

06

Salvation

We believe salvation is only possible through personal faith in Jesus Christ — there is no other path. Salvation is entirely a gift from God; we don't earn it or deserve it. When someone genuinely turns from sin and trusts Jesus as Lord and Savior, God forgives them completely and makes them a new person. This is what the Bible calls being “born again.” Salvation includes:

  • Regeneration — God making us spiritually alive through the Holy Spirit
  • Justification — God declaring us “not guilty” because of Jesus
  • Sanctification — God making us more like Jesus over time (a lifelong process)
  • Glorification — the final completion of our salvation when Jesus returns

We also believe that true believers persevere — those genuinely saved by God are kept by God. This doesn't mean Christians can't struggle or sin, but it does mean God doesn't lose the people who are His.

Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

07

The Church

We believe the local church is God's primary plan for how His people grow and make a difference in the world. A church is a community of people who have trusted Jesus, been baptized, and committed to following him together. The church is led by pastors/elders (a role the Bible reserves for qualified men) and served by deacons. In the broader sense, the church includes all followers of Jesus across every culture and every time in history — one family under one Lord.

Church isn't optional for a follower of Jesus. It's where we belong.

08

Baptism & the Lord's Supper

We believe baptism is for people who have already trusted Jesus — an outward sign of an inward change. We practice baptism by full immersion in water, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It doesn't save you, but it's a meaningful act of obedience. We believe the Lord's Supper (communion) is a regular practice for believers to remember what Jesus did on the cross and to look forward to his return. The bread and the cup are symbols — they point powerfully to him.

These aren't just rituals — they tell the story of Jesus with our whole selves.

09

The Future

We believe Jesus is physically coming back. When he does, everyone who has ever lived will be raised from the dead and stand before him in judgment. Those who trusted Jesus will spend eternity with God — a place of joy, wholeness, and the fullness of his presence. Those who rejected him will face eternal separation from God, which the Bible calls hell.

This life is not the end of the story — and that shapes how we live right now.

10

Marriage & Family

We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman — God's design, not a cultural preference — reflecting the relationship between Christ and his church. Both husband and wife are equally valued and bear God's image, partnering together in distinct and complementary roles. We believe children are a gift from God, and parents bear the responsibility to raise them to know and follow Jesus. And we believe every person — regardless of the family they grew up in or the situation they're in — is fully loved and welcomed at Church at the Grove. We walk with people with grace and truth.

God's design for family is good, and we trust it — while loving every person with grace.

11

Evangelism

We believe every follower of Jesus has both the privilege and the responsibility to share the gospel. Telling people about Jesus isn't just something pastors do — it's part of what it means to be a Christian. Our lives and our words both bear witness to him.

If Jesus changed your life, you have something worth sharing.

A Note on Open-Handed Beliefs

Not every question in Christianity has one answer all Christians agree on — and that's okay. Things like the timing of Jesus' return, certain details about spiritual gifts, or questions of worship style fall into what we call open-handed territory, and we make room for different views. What we won't let those conversations do is divide us or pull someone away from the foundations above. If you're ever wondering where something lands, just ask — we'd love to talk it through.
